I was fired the day after someone was hired to cover my maternity leave

1 (32) am currently 23 weeks pregnant. I had just announced about a month ago that I was pregnant and my office manager immediately called the owner and told him I was pregnant (which I was

planning on telling him myself) and told him she will start looking for someone to cover my maternity leave. She asked me when I was leaving and I told her I had no idea that

me and my boyfriend haven't discussed it yet. I asked her how maternity leave works and how long do I get, she said to just let her know when and that I can take as long as I want.

Not too long after, we already had working interviews coming in, and after the 3rd WI, she was hired and scheduled to start on 10/14. She ended up having something come up and started last Monday. A week before

she started, OM moved me to the sister location telling me she wanted me to have less stress during my pregnancy. Which she originally told me my coworker was going to be moved over there, since I am the main front office at this location.

The next day after the new hire started, I had just arrived to work and was about to get out of my car, when OM calls me and asks if I was at work already, I told her yes that I had just arrived (7:30amish) and apologizes saying she was

suppose to call me yesterday to let me know that I was being let go. She had just gotten busy and that she forgot. Saying that the owner spoke her the day before to tell her that he wanted to let me go.

She said there have been a lot of mistakes, and that she's not sure if it's my hormones or what but that I have stopped caring, that I don't accept criticism the same way, and that the owner said I was acting different, that I

was just there at work and not present, and he even asked if I was ok, and that he just noticed something different. I asked what I was doing wrong, especially at the main office and she didn't exactly give me straight answers except repeated what I wrote above.

I started crying and was asking to please help me understand why I was being fired. And she said she said she felt bad, saying that she hates this part of the job and that she likes me as a person and that she was going to try

to talk to the owner to see if he will reconsider but that once he makes up his mind about something he won't change it. She then needed up getting a phone call from her school and said she would call me back and never did.

I called my boyfriend and told him what happened. He told me to go home and we would figure something out. I just sat in the parking lot for 30 mins crying and pretty much cried the rest of the day thinking about my baby. I'm

losing my medical insurance and I'm considered a high risk pregnancy and I doubt anyone will hire me this far along. My boyfriend and my cousin think I should sue them for wrongful termination. I need help and any advice would be much appreciated.

Bunny7781mom Go immediately to an employment attorney. This is a clear case of retaliation. If they have given you no write ups or pips for your supposed mistakes, they have no proof that that was why they fired you. The attorney may be able to get you rehired or at least a very nice settlement. They broke a number of laws. He may be able to do something about your insurance as well.

When you go in, ask about COBRA. No matter what, you can stay on your same insurance by paying the premiums yourself. Given the cost of a delivery, it would be worth it. Talk to the attorney before you go in and do exactly what he tells you.

FYI - most employment attorneys work on contingency. Meaning you pay them nothing up front and they take a portion of the settlement. No settlement, no fee. Given your case sounds like a slam dunk, they should be eager to represent you.

futurecas OP Thank you. Currently have spoken to 2 lawyers. I don't want to go back there after the way they treated me. I need them to get back to me asap on cobra, also looking into other ins options as well. I was gonna go Monday but now I will wait until I speak to a lawyer and legal advice of what to do next.

No Pride 6664 This is absolutely grounds for a wrongful termination suit. Get as much info as possible, but YOUR LAWYER WILL ADVISE YOU. Just get representation immediately b4 they have a moment to organize. What an awful thing to do to a pregnant

woman, esp one with a high- risk pregnancy. I'm so sorry. Get the lawyer. Sue for your maternity leave plus damages and insurance. There's no humanity in that bosses decision whatsoever. It's just gross.
